“Digital Transformation (DT or DX) is the adoption of digital technology to transform services or businesses, through replacing non-digital or manual processes with digital processes or replacing older digital technology with newer digital technology. Digital solutions may enable – in addition to efficiency via automation – new types of innovation and creativity, rather than simply enhancing and supporting traditional methods.”

Here in the UK at the time of writing, the restrictions around movement and co-occupancy are steadily lifting and many employees are starting conversations with employers about what to do next regarding their place of work. Whilst some companies believe office employees should return to pre-pandemic working conditions (Goldman Sachs), many employees are expecting working from home at least in part to be included.
And why not? Most companies have adjusted (if not perfectly) to a workforce almost entirely home based and several surveys are now being published showing that for many employees working from home is beneficial, not just for them but the company as well. Stress levels are reduced across the workforce, productivity remains steady and many are reporting a higher level of job satisfaction – this author certainly does not miss a two hour daily commute!
Recruitment agencies are reporting that new candidates are now asking for roles that guarantee a number of days working from home and from first hand experience, interviewees are asking for those commitments up front in their conversations.
And this is where digital transformation comes in. Taking those processes that have been ‘band-aided’ together to support the sudden requirement for home working, reviewing for improvements that could (and should) be made, then working with technology partners / solution providers (like PacSol) to implement what is necessary. We have previous blogs on specific examples of platform changes to consider such as getting post to a distributed workforce, positive changes from the pandemic and permanent changes to the way we work but the requirements of every business will be different depending on what has already been implemented.
PacSol can apply our experience to help you understand what improvements could be made through changes to previous digital transformations (start from where you are), the addition of business process automation workflows or even design and provide a whole new ECM platform for your workforce.
This author is confident (and pleased) that working from home is here to stay for a large proportion of employees in the UK, not just for business productivity but the added benefits for the environment and employee’s mental welfare.
