Revisit: What next? Enhancing an existing ECM
These past few months, PacSol has been consulting with an existing customer whose IBM based document and business process management platform (ImageView) was initially implemented a couple of decades ago!
The platform has worked reliably and served the needs of the business well, however, with recent changes in data governance and driven by an exponential increase in digital correspondence (email), it has become apparent that changes are required. PacSol have since performed an initial review and made recommendations for immediate and medium term improvements that will make a significant impact – not only will these revised processes significantly reduce the need to manually process information, the recommendations will reduce processing errors and streamline the overall workflow processing time.
A couple of years ago, our blog featured an article on just this process of re-assessing an existing platform to further refine and gain more benefit. It is especially evident with more mature platforms that there will be greater scope for improvements due to the advances in the platform applications over time – “What next? Moving forward with your existing ECM”As highlighted in the article, and by this recent customer example, starting from where you are (not looking to completely reinvent the wheel), taking what you already have and adapting that platform to meet newer requirements can reap huge benefit without the major disruption of trying to implement a new platform application, retrain staff and potentially change supplier / customer experience.
